Then we walked along the Rim Trail for a bit and visited Hopi House and the stores. We saw more elk wandering around and visited the national park garage since our brakes were making a noise. They said they couldn't do anything for us because we thought it was the trailer brakes but they gave us a name of someplace that could help. We headed to our campground just 15 minutes down the road and tried to call some shops, but had no luck since it's the 4th of July. At our campground we had an elk wander by which was really cool! They’re huge!

Day 17: The Grand Canyon!
Is there anything more American than visiting the Grand Canyon on the 4th of July?! I don’t know, but we did and it wasn’t too crowded either. We saw many elk (almost hit a whole group of them on the way in this morning!) and saw the Grand Canyon for the first time! We used the shuttle service, which was very high tech, compared to the others, with announcements for each stop and the driver giving tips much of the way. We went to Bright Angel Trail and hiked a mile and a half down into the canyon! It was amazing to see the canyon from that far down and all around us. We stopped at Mile and a Half Rest House for water and shade and then walked back up. It was 85 degrees (luckily not hotter) and it was no joke walking up. Luckily there are lots of places where shade is available but still it’s tough in the heat! We booked it though. It took us about 55 minutes to get down and only an hour to get back out. We loved the natural water bottle fill stations after!
